Yes. Modern heat pumps perform well in cold climates, including Illinois winters. Most systems maintain full heating capacity down to around 5°F. The key is proper sizing for your home and climate, which is why an in-home assessment matters before installation.
A traditional split-system heat pump uses existing ductwork to heat and cool your whole home. A ductless mini-split has no ductwork; it delivers conditioned air directly to one or more zones. Mini-splits work well for additions, older homes without ducts, or spaces that need independent temperature control.
